Lamar had a good turn out at Ruggapalooza 2018. There was a full side that showed up on the day. Lamar competed well with the teams, holding back on individual effort, focusing on phase play. The team was comprised of 5 or so veterans with many new comers to the game. In all the team played really well given the disparity in experience and skill, covering well in defense, comfortable in contact and moving the ball through forwards play and back line to find the edges for some good break away runs.
Some highlights include some good runs by Christian Glover:

Working on scheduling preseason matches for the Wildcats
The Wildcats currently have three all day tournaments scheduled.

Lamar rugby will be training the remainder of 2017 at its new location, Bayland park, located at 6400 Bissonet St, Houston, Texas 77076. The move is quite an upgrade for Lamar. It's a bit of a drive for some, but having grass and a practice location that allows for tacking without getting hurt from the field, so worth it!!

Alex Park, a freshman at Lamar High School, has been selected to represent the Atlantis Sevens U16 team as they defend their championship, during the USA Sevens international rugby tournament, March 3 – 5th, 2017 in Las Vegas. Alex was spotted by the University of Houston Rugby Head Coach, Daniel Whetzel, at 2017 Ruggapalooza, an annual event hosted by Houston Youth Rugby Association (HYRA).
Alex started playing rugby in 2015 with Lanier Middle School RFC, attending camps at Brigham Young University and graduating to Lamar High School RFC. The Lanier and Lamar RFC programs were established by and are coached by active members of Houston Athletic Rugby Club (HARC), as Houston’s youth development programs.
"Alex is a great study of the game and a really good person. The team is so excited for him. He worked hard in summer sevens and fifteens preseason, it has landed him the starting scrum-half position on Varsity”, Fischer Wheat, Captain Lamar HS RFC.
The Atlantis U16 is competitive with 12 players selected nationally, Alex is the only player selected from Texas. The Atlantis Sevens has been established for 30 years, competed in 31 countries and has had 100 of its members go on to become USA Eagles (Americas Rugby Team). Alex’s participation will allow him a path to compete for an Olympic Spot in 4 years.
